This is a great show from Lilly Hiatt.

  • The guitarist is great in his own right, and I was surprised his solo record sounded like this.
  • Lilly straining not to swear on Move was great 😊
  • I would love to see Lilly Hiatt’s Nashville; who does she go to see?
  • I kinda want to retire to Nashville and run websites for super talented, underdog musicians.
  • This performance and the musicians were perfect for the vibe of Lately.

This Prince performance

  • Prince’s glittery cape echoes the etherialness of his first solo
  • In the entourage on the stage, you can see where Prince took after George Clinton
  • The solo at the end shows a young version of the that-much-more-polished Prince that played the solo at George Harrison’s HoF induction
  • The section around 14:00 shows Prince as his real self: a prince of the Fae world, only briefly intersecting with our own.

I’ve been slow to Sierra Ferrell, but…

This performance changed my mind.

  • It’s great to see a younger generation that is clearly versed in older generations, but putting it all together in new ways
  • Sierra Ferrell is clearly both super-talented and well-read/listened

This is a good cover song

A perfect cover merges seamlessly the cover-er and the cover-ee, not just reimagines a song in a new style. This cover not only qualifies, but crystallized that definition of a perfect cover song.

This is the way great music gets passed down through generations…this is how I know the greatest music from the 50s and 60s and how kids of today’s youth know what was amazing from the 1990’s.

This is nice

How amazing to play drums at your dad’s memorial concert, but maybe seeing that many people is normal to a kid in his situation. Still, wow! Looks like a perfect cathartic moment for both Dave Grohl and Shane Hawkins.

Ratboys!

Whats the difference between a band that jams and a jam band? My guess is that it’s concert recorders or 1000 true fans.

You had me at mandolin *and* Hammond B3
